Identification of florets of meadow brome (Bromus riparius) and smooth brome (Bromus inermis)

Abstract
The seeds of Bromus riparius, a relatively new forage grass introduction of Eurasian origin, were studied and compared with those of Bromus inermis. It was found that the two species studied could, with care, be separated using the characteristics of the florets. A table summarizing the important features of each species is presented.
