Abstract
My thesis deals with the Japanese animation, especially its mainstream form, called the anime. I focus on the reasons and conditions of its birth, genres and graphic styles, the most important creators and their films and also their influence on the Western, especially American cinema. Then I write about more artistic authors and their works, mostly short films that are different from the mainstream. I also characterize some of the modern animation technologies and I compare then with the Western production.
