Pagetina reductasp.n. (Crustacea: Amphipoda) with a review of the family Pagetinidae

Abstract

Pagetina reducta sp.n. is described from the Falkland Islands. It is characterized by strongly reduced mouthparts, especially maxillae 1 and 2, which are obsolescent. The number of genera in the family is reduced to one with the incorporation of Heterocressa into Pagetina. With the description of P. reducta the family, which is exclusively Antarctic and sub-Antarctic, now contains three species.
