Abstract

A ''dynamo'' process involving motion of neutral air across the earth's magnetic field lines is believed to cause plasma motions in the magnetosphere during quiet times. Solar heating and solar and lunar gravitation influence this process. Whistlers which act as natural probes of the magnetospheric field lines are used to study this phenomena. (BJG)
