Abstract

The present studies were undertaken at two locations i.e. Nauni-Solan and Bhota-Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh, during February 2003 and September 2003. The plant bio-regulators used were gibberellic acid (GAj), ethrel and thiourea and the corms were planted in February 2003 at Nauni, whereas, at Bhota planting was done in September 2003. Ethrel 1500 ppm was the most effective in causing earlier sprouting and earlier flowering in both the plantings. Tallest plants with more number of leaves were produced when the corms were treated with GA3 300 ppm and planted in February 2003 and September 2003. Longest spikes with maximum number of florets per spike were produced when the corms were treated with GA3 300 ppm and planted in February 2003 and September 2003. GA3300 ppm resulted in increasing the number, size and weight of corms on both the planting dates. This treatment was also effective in producing more number of heavier cormels per plant.
