Abstract
The present study entitled study of existing dairy fanning practices was conducted in Uttar Pradesh. The infonnation was collected from 400 respondents having sufficient number of crossbred animals. It was observed that artificial insemination (AI) was the breeding practice followed in both crossbred as well as local cattle. In buffaloes, natural service was the choice breeding practice as indicated by majority of fanners. The farmers were adopted milk production criteria for feeding their animals. Regarding the housing of animals 64 per cent of the respondents were maintaining puccas shed for their animals. 70 per cent of the cattle owners were using knuckling method of milking. Disposal of crossbred male calves is the serious problem for the cattle owners, especially in states where there is a ban on cow slaughter. Finally the frequent problem experienced by the dairy fanners was non-availability veterinary and At facilities in the village, which was a hindrance to the adoption of improved dairy fanning practices.
