Abstract
Listening is an active process in language learning, not a passive one. It is important to assist language learners to improve listening comprehension. Not only is listening important to communicate with others it is also needed in language acquisition. Implementation of listening comprehension strategies allow teachers to facilitate language listening comprehension for their students. With the help of listening comprehension strategies, language learners are able to be more independent in their future study. This study examined the effects of English listening comprehension strategy instruction. The experiment samples were Taiwanese students in an institute of technology. The duration of the experiment was ten weeks. In the meantime, researcher conducted a thirty-minute instruction activity every week. A pre-test was given to the students before the listening comprehension strategy instruction to identify their English listening proficiency. A post-test was given to them at the end of the experiment. The same assessment tool will be used for both the pre- and post- tests to examine the effect of English listening comprehension strategy instruction. The result of this study is helpful to English foreign language instructors. They can apply English listening comprehension strategy instruction to improve students' listening comprehension. EFL teachers should recognize that English listening comprehension strategies help students develop EFL listening comprehension successfully.
