Abstract

The different modes of combining isoniazid and streptomycin in the treatment of tuberculosis raise problems which can be approached experimentally. Murine tuberculosis lends itself very well to the experimental approach. The excellent therapeutic effect of a combination of isoniazid and streptomycin in experimental murine tuberculosis is well known as several papers have been published on this question (1-4). The object of this work is to compare the therapeutic effect of antituberculosis treatment by different combinations of isoniazid and streptomycin applied either in a continuous fashion for a year, or for a shorter time in a two-phase treatment: an initial phase of three months using isoniazid and streptomycin, followed by a second phase of nine months using isoniazid alone.
