Abstract

Urea (2 per cent) and Auxin-61 sprays either separately or in combination were found to induce more vegetative growth over the control. Similarly more shoots were produced when these chemicals were applied after the harvest of the fruit than per-harvest applications. The decapitation of shoot tips produced more vegetative growth than undecaptation treatment. The urea application increased the leaf nitrogen which was found to be more when it was sprayed at the preharvest stage than that of post harvest application. Spraying of Ethrel (150 ppm) failed to induce flowering in the post harvest flushes of Dashehari. However, there was a marginal increase in the per cent flowering of Mrach shoots. Although Ethrel treatment did not affect sex ratio, it enhanced the flowering by 4 to 7 days.
