Abstract

The proliferative capacity of small AKR leukemic cells was evaluated after cell separation in a 1-g sucrose density gradient. On transplantation, the separated small cells, which were unlabeled by tritiated thymidine and had a 2 c (normal complement) content of DNA, produced leukemia as readily as larger labeled cells. It is concluded that the small cells are not end-stage cells, as previously suggested, but rather those in the G1 or G0 phase
