Bioefficacy of Newer and Conventional Insecticides against Mango Hopper, Amritodus atkinsoni (Lethierry)

Abstract

Field experiments were conducted at Horticulture Farm, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand during 2007–08 and 2008–09 to determine bioefficacy of newer and conventional insecticides against mango hopper, Amritodus atkinsoni infesting mango. Of the nine insecticides evaluated, imidacloprid (0.0053%), thiamethoxam (0.0075%), acetamiprid (0.005%) and fipronil (0.0075%) were found effective in checking the hopper population. The costs of application for these insecticides were 2420, 2924, 2378 and 3092 Rs ha−1, respectively. Carbaryl (0.2%), endosulfan (0.07%) and deltamethrin (0.0028%) were only moderately effective against mango hoppers. Dimethoate (0.03%) and phosphamidon (0.03%) were found less effective in controlling the pest. Dimethoate, deltamethrin, phosphamidon and endosulfan cost Rs. 1972 to 2252 per ha, while carbaryl had higher application cost (3820 Rs ha−1).
