Abstract
The study examines the relationship between different forms of commitment and organizational citizenship behavior in engineering institutions. Data were collected from 655 teachers working in private engineering colleges, affiliated to JNT University. The study is based on the concept that job involvement mediates between group commitment and organizational commitment, which predicts organizational citizenship behavior. The results indicated that job involvement mediated the relationship between group commitment and organizational commitment, and organizational commitment predicted organizational citizenship behavior towards the student, the team, and the organization. The implications of the study show that there should be involvement of the teachers in the activities which can increase their group cohesiveness, thereby increasing teachers’ organizational commitment and commitment to the job. In turn, the job involvement will have a positive effect on organizational commitment and can increase teachers’ engagement in organizational citizenship behavior towards the student, the team, and the organization.
