Abstract

The current status of the electroweak Standard Model is reviewed including recent theoretical results which have contributed to improve the theoretical predictions for precision observables and the remaining inherent theoretical uncertainties. In particular the masses of W and Z, the parameters of the Z resonance, the electroweak mixing angle, and low energy quantities are covered. The implications of the recent experimental precision data for the Standard Model is discussed and the situation for the top quark and the Higgs boson is described. More general or alternative formulations of the electroweak theory are also briefly reviewed in the light of the precision data.
