Abstract

After Brazil, India is the second largest sugarcane producer in the world. In sub-tropical India due to high variance in temperature (summers being hot and winters very cold) sugarcane growth is restricted because of this. In this region farmers are advised sugarcane spaced transplanting (STP) after wheat harvest. It involves transplanting of single bud pre-germinated shoots raised in soil which helps in improvement in cane yield of late planted sugarcane crop.
