Abstract
Endoscopic ultrasonography enabled insertion directly into the esophagus, stomach or duodenum for observation of the target organ and was useful in collecting information on gallbladder status prior to operation. One hundred and thirty-eight cases were studied by endoscopic ultrasonography from January 1985 to July 1986. The percentage of true positive findings for gallstones, gallbladder polyps, gallbladder cancer, cholecystitis and normal gallbladder by endoscopic ultrasonography were 96.6%(28/29 cases), 95.5%(21/22), 50%(2/4), 93.8%(15/16) and 100%(67/67), respectively. These results were slightly superior to those achieved by conventional ultrasonography study. In order to obtain detailed images of endoscopic ultrasonography in gallbladder diseases, position change with dislodgement of probes is sometimes needed.
