Abstract
Dr. V.N. Naik and his co-workers founded herbarium the in Department of Botany in the year 1969. The herbarium was initiated with collections of plants from Osmanabad District which were collected by Dr. V.N. Naik for his Ph. D. work during 1963–1967. At present, it has become probably the largest herbarium housed in any University from India. The methodology of plant preservation, arrangements in herbarium and data generation is presented in the present paper. In BAMU herbarium about 85, 000 plant specimens are stored in the form of herbarium sheets and some fruit collections. Herbarium preparation and retrieval methods used to preserve the plant specimens are explained for the benefit of research scholars.
