A preliminary cost analysis of a proprietary feed conversion process suggested that the cost of producing biomass and converting it to energy-enhanced roughage would be competitive with importing grain from the U.S. mainland. An investment of $8-10M on plant and equipment might result in a cost of $112 per ton of product, depending on the size of the operation.
