Abstract
The author discusses the commercial status of artificial intelligence, and delves into AI hardware systems now available, as well as reporting on several product-development projects close to fruition around the world. Prominent among the latter are projects under way in Japan, reported in detail. These projects stem both from the fifth-generation computer project and from investigations into artificial intelligence. New US LISP machines have been announced, as Japan investigates PROLOG and LISP.
