Abstract
The authors present results of a study on the influence of the reaction temperature (40-650 C) and content of water vapor (0-90%) on the yield of carbon monoxide and hydrogen during radiolysis of CO/sub 2/ + H/sub 2/O mixtures by gamma-radiation. The dose rate was determined by the ethylene dosimetry method. It was found that during radiolysis of carbon dioxide containing 1-5 vol.% of water vapor by gamma-radiation at room temperature, hydrogen is formed in a yield of (0.6 + or - 0.1) mole/100 eV. A tendency to saturation in the formation of hydrogen was observed at doses of ca 5 X 10/sup 17/ eV/cm/sup 3/. The stationary hydrogen concentration was ca 6 X 10/sup 15/ mole/cm/sup 3/. The yield of hydrogen exceeds its expected value, calculated from the electric fraction of H/sub 2/O in the mixture. Moreover, only traces of carbon monoxide were detected.
