Economics of Paddy Production in Dantewada District of Chhattisgarh

The study aims to examine the economics of paddy production at different size of farmsin Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh. The survey for this purpose was conducted in two blocks of Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh. Primary data were collected from 80 farmers from four villages of two blocks through personal interview method with the help of pre-structured schedule for the year 2013–14. Study revealed that the average cost of cultivation of paddy was estimated to be Rs. 13533.63 per hectare and shows increasing trend with the increase in farm sizes. The average yield was observed to be 28.67 quintals per hectare. Highest yield was found at medium farms i.e. 29.80 quintals per hectare across the different farms. The gross return from paddy crop was observed as Rs. 46703.50 per hectare. The average cost of production was calculated as Rs. 472.05 per quintal. The average net income per hectare was observed to be Rs. 33169.87. Highest net income was observed at marginal farms i.e. Rs. 35206.91 per hectare. The input- output ratio was observed 1:3.45. However, on the basis of cost concept the same figure was observed 1:1.79 in the paddy cultivation at the sample farms.
