Interrelationship Among Green Pod Yield and Its Yield Contributing Characters and Biochemical Characters Vegetable Cowpea [Vigna unguiniculata L. (Walp.)]

Abstract

Forty genotypes of vegetable cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L. Walp.) of diverge origin were utilized for this investigation during summer-2013. Correlation analysis and path coefficient analysis were computed for green pod yield and other component characters biochemical traits. Green pod yield per plant showed positive significant correlation with pod length, ten pod weight and number of seeds per pod. The path coefficient analysis indicated that highest positive direct effect on green pod yield per plant and was exhibited by number of green pods per plant followed by days to 50% flowering, ash content and pod length. The number of green pod yield per plant and ash content having a high indirect effect via number of seeds per pod on a green pod yield per plant. Likewise days to 50% flowering showed an indirect effect via chlorophyll content and pod length reported high indirect effect via days to first picking on a green pod yield per plant. The indirect effect observed on green pod yield per plant via pod length, ten pod weight and number of seeds per pod. Hence, these traits may be considered as the most important yield contributing traits.
