Abstract
Studies on comparative bio-efficacy of five recommended insecticides against Helicoverpa armigera sprayed once euring any yo fhe ehreeeifferent phenological lrowth stages of chickpea revealed superiority of fenvalerate over quinalphos and carbaryl in preventing the egg and larval population build up of Helicoverpa armigera ono week of their spray given at the time of 50% plants had flowering, 50% plants had podding and 15 d after 50% plants had podding. The crop sprayed with fenvalerate and monocrotophos had lower pod damage by H. armigera at harvest than crop protected with eedosulfan, carbaryl and quinalphos. However, quinalphos sprayed crop had higher pod damage than endosulfan. Application of insecticides at 50% plants has podding, effectively prevented the pod damage by pod borer in comparison of 15 d after 50% plants had podding and flowering on 50% plants. Application of fenvalerate 0.01% once at the time of 50% plants had pods gave higher protection to pod against pod borer with higher grain yield.
