Abstract

Originally published in German in the radical modernist magazine a bis z in 1929, this essay focuses on Constantin Brancusi; in particular the materiality of his sculptures and the importance of the manual work involved in their creation and the aesthetics of the studio-workshop. The essay is informed by the author’s own experience of visiting Brancusi in his studio in Paris.
