"Pseudowinging" of the Scapula Secondary to Subscapular Osteochondroma

Abstract
Osteochondroma is the most benign tumor of the scapula. Increased scapular prominence caused by a subscapular osteochondorma may be mistaken for a classical winged scapula. A 27-year-old female with a pseudowinging of the scapula secondary to subscapular osteochondroma was surgically successfully treated. No residual scapular symptoms and deformity existed eight weeks after surgery. Pathology did not reveal any malignant transformation. No evidence of recurrence was present at the 18th month follow up. Careful physical examination and trans-scapular radiography can differentiate the subscapular osteochondroma from the classical wing of the scapula.
