Abstract

$^{78}\mathrm{Rb}$ and $^{78m}\mathrm{Rb}$ were produced via the following heavy-ion reactions: $^{65}\mathrm{Cu}(^{16}\mathrm{O},3n)^{78,78m}\mathrm{Rb}$ and $^{69}\mathrm{Ga}(^{12}\mathrm{C},3n)^{78,78m}\mathrm{Rb}$. The half-lives of $^{78}\mathrm{Rb}$ and $^{78m}\mathrm{Rb}$ were measured and found to be 6.5 \ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{} 0.5 min and 4.2 \ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{} 0.2 min, respectively. The study of singles $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray spectra and the use of two large Ge(Li) detectors in coincidence revealed the existence of several previously unreported transitions in $^{78}\mathrm{Kr}$. Decay schemes are proposed for $^{78}\mathrm{Rb}$ and $^{78m}\mathrm{Rb}$, populating the following levels in $^{78}\mathrm{Kr}$: 455.1, 1119.7, 1148.0, 1564.9, and 1978.5 keV. Spin and parity assignments of some of the levels of $^{78}\mathrm{Kr}$ are discussed.
