Abstract
The trials on field efficacy of cartap hydrochloride (Padan 4G) against rice stem borer, Scirpophaga incertulas Walker from 1990–92 at different locations on basmati rice in Punjab showed that the three applications of cartap hydrochloride @ 1.0 kg a.1/ha were highly effective compared to carbofuran 3G, phorate 10G(@ 0.75 kg a.i/ha each); chlorphyriphos 20 EC, monocrotophos 36 EC® 0.5 kg a.i/ha each) and ethofenprox 10 EC (@0.075 and 0.05 kg a.i/ha). When applied at 20 days interval starting from 30 days after transplanting, cartap hydrochloride @ 1.5 and 1.0 kg a.i/ha was also observed to be safe and selective to egg parasitoids, Telenomus dignoides Nixon with a maximum egg parasitism 62.3- 81.6 per cent compared to carbofuran (40–59%) and phorate (33–54%).
