Abstract

Field studies were conducted at Hisar during 1993 and 1994 to develop suitable weed management practices in soybean. Pre-plant application of trifluralin at 1.0 kg followed by fluazifop 0.75 kg/ha at 20 days after sowing (DAS) provided excellent control of barnyard grass (Echinochloa colonum L.) and carpetweed (Trianthema portulacastrum L.). Trifluralin at 1.0 kg as pre-plant followed by post-emergence chlorimuron 6.0 g/ha proved very effective against most of the broad leaf weeds. Broad spectrum weed control was obtained when pre-plant trifluralin or pre-emergence pendimethalin each at 1.0 kg/ha were supplemented with one hand hoeing at 35 DAS. Integration of one herbicide with another herbicide or hand hoeing provided better growth, yield attributes and consequently higher soybean yield.
