Abstract

It has become accepted that the core of some galaxies could contain a huge mass such as a black hole, and there is now gathering evidence that some galaxy cores might contain a two-body system of such masses. Such a two-body system would create a global background gravitational field pattern throughout the galaxy. The characteristics of this background field are here computed, under the assumption that the two bodies are in steady-state circular orbits. The resulting field pattern is shown to correlate well with observed barred spiral galaxy structure.
