Abstract
If the delay of a bus at signalized intersection can be reduced through bus preemption signal, the bus operation performance can be improved significantly. In this paper a simulation system is developed with microscopic aspect for investigating the performance of bus preemption signal. The simulation system developed in this paper is called MISSBUS (Microscopic Simulation System for Bus Operation). It can simulate the various bus preemption signal control logics under different bus traffic volumes and different layouts of bus stops. Taking the bus exclusive lane in Taipei for an example, the performance of bus preemption signal is evaluated by simulation. This indicates the simulation system MISSBUS might be a useful tool for investigating bus preemption signal design.
