Abstract
Sixtyfour soil samples from different regions in Assam were analysed for (i) pH, (ii) exchangeable acidity, (iii) extractable acidity, and (iv) exchangeable aluminium. The lime requirement (LR) of the soils were determined by two different methods, viz, (a) Peech and (b) Shoemaker. Simple correlation studies showed that the LR values are, in general, correlated negatively with pH and positively with exchangeable acidity, extractable acidity and exchangeable aluminium in respect of soils of most of the regions. Multiple regression studies showed that the LR values are very strongly influenced by the combined effect of the above mentioned four soil acidity parameters.
