This article describes the evolution of electric traction supply technology and looks forward to a decade of further developments in cost-effective transport electrification in the United Kingdom. Transport areas discussed are: rolling stock power electronics in British Rail; electrification of the Great Western line; power supply reinforcement for the Docklands Light Railway; Manchester Metrolink's new tram system extensions; Sheffield Supertram's system.
