Abstract
The prevalence of trichuriasis due to Trichuris ovis in sheep in Kanpur region of Uttar Pradesh, was studied from July 2004 to June 2006. On examination of 480 large intestines, cecum and same number of their faecal samples of freshly slaughtered sheep aged between 1 to 2 years, a total of 20 (4.16%) sheep were found infected with Trichuris ovis. The highest infection was recorded 5.6 per cent in rainy season (July to Oct.), moderate infection was 3.75 per cent in summer season (March to June) and lowest infection 3.12 per cent was observed in winter season (Nov. to Feb.) respectively. The result showed that the worms infected the host gradually, however, the heavy rainfall, polluted water, dense shade near dwelling places of animals and moisture affected the intensity of infections.
