Abstract

An experiment was conducted dUring the rabi seasons of 1998–99 and 1999–2000 on loamy soil in texture to study the nutrient uptake and yield of frenchbean as influenced by weed control methods and nitrogen levels. Highest nutrient (NPK) uptake and yield of frenchbean crop were noted with weed free condition, followed by application of pendimethalin @ 0.75 kg a.i./ha as a pre-emergence along with hand weeding at 45 days after sowing (DAS). Lowest values were recorded with weedy check. Higher levels of nitrogen (120 kg/ha) recorded significantly higher values of nutrient uptake and yield of frenchbean crop. The highest yield potential, maximum net returns and Cost Benefit Ratios (CBR) were also found superior with application of pendimethalin @ 0.75 kg a.i./ha as a pre-emergence along with hand weeding at 45 days after sowing (DAS) and higher level of nitrogen (120 kg/ha).
