Abstract

An investigation was carried out at Bhubaneswar during 1969–70 to study the effect of growth regulators (2, 4-D, NAA, GA and 2,4, 5-T), each at 10, 20 and 40 ppm concentrations, on the ascorbic acid content, titrable acidity and total soluble solids in fruit pulp of litchi variety Muzaffarpur. The maximum ascorbic acid content was obtained with NAA at 20 and 40 ppm and 2, 4, 5-T at 40 ppm, which differed significantly from control. Twenty ppm of 2, 4-D and 40 ppm of 2, 4, 5-T also resulted in significant increases over control. The percentage of titrable acidity in fruit pulp was significantly influenced by the treatments. The maximum increase over control was registered by 40 ppm of GA, whereas 40 ppm of 2, 4-D showed the lowest acid content. The TSS/acid ratio was substantially increased over control by the treatment of 40 ppm of NAA, 40 ppm of 2, 4. D, 20 ppm 2, 4, 5-T, 2, 4-D and 10 ppm of 2, 4, 5-T. The highest ratios were recorded under 40 ppm of 2, 4-D.
