Abstract
Eight parents and twenty eight F1s (following half Diallel fashion) were evaluated at HRC, SVPUAT, Meerut during kharif 2010. Estimates of PCV were generally higher than their corresponding GCV for all the characters viz plant height, primary branches per plant, plant spread, days to first flowering, days to first fruit set, days to first harvest, average fruit weight, fruit length, fruit diameter, fruit index, fruits per plant and yield per plant. PCV and GCV were high (>25%) for fruits per plant, average fruit weight, fruit index, fruit length, fruit diameter, primary branches per plant, whereas, yield per plant, plant spread, plant height, days to first flowering, days to first fruit set and days to first harvest showed moderate PCV (10–25%). The heritability estimates were high for all the characters. Expected genetic advance was observed to be high for fruits per plant, average fruit weight, fruit index, fruit length, fruit diameter, primer branches per plant, yield per plant, plant spread and plant height where as moderate for days to first flowering, days to first fruit set and days to first harvest.
