Abstract
Application of isoproturon (1.0 kg/ha), pendimethalin (1.0 kg/ha), haloxyfopmethyl (0.25 kg/ha) and simazine (0.25 kg/ha) registered, on an average, 89.0, 89.5, 73.8, 46.3 per cent mortality of grass weeds and 51.9, 76.4, 11.1 and 56.2 percent mortality of broadleaf weed in potato crop. The carryover effects of these herbicides viz, isoproturon, pendi-methalin, haloxfopmethyl and simazine resulted in a reduction of 78.9, 69.5, 33.6 and 53.4 per cent in grass and 60.0, 53.8, 40.3 and 58.5 per cent in broadleaf weeds in succeeding crop cf wheat. The highest potato and wheat yields were recorded under isoproturon (1 kg/ha), closely followed by pendimethalin (1 kg/ha). An additional net monetary return of Rs. 3883/ha and Rs. 2366/ha was obtained through use of isoproturon and pendimethalin respectively, over weedy check.
