Abstract
With the rapid advancement in technology, engineers are required to keep up with the changing technology. A number of overseas countries have already established support system for practical training of professional engineers after graduation from university. In Japan, the training programs for graduate engineers are mainly conducted in-house by the company and hence the scope of training is relatively narrow. This paper reports on the current limitations of the practical training of the JSME member engineer qualification and proposes possible actions to be adopted by the profession for certification of engineer qualification.
