Abstract

The purpose of this study is to understand the using of cooperative principle in utterances from But}u>t} az-Z|ahabiy 2. This study applied the theory of cooperative principle which was outlined by Grice (1975) who divided utterances into maxims. This study applied equivalent method and contextual method as the analysis method. The outcomes of this research are found that cooperative principle divided into four kinds of maxim. There are maxim of quantity, maxim of quality, maxim of relevance, and maxim of manner
