Abstract

Genetic variability and character associaton between yield and its contributing trait were studied in 12 varieties of cultivated lentil (Lens culanris Medik). Wide range of variability was observed for various characters. In general phenotypic coefficent of variation was higher than genotype coefficient of variation. Estimates high heritability coupled with high genetic advanced in 100-seed weight, pods per plant, plant height and yield per plant indicate the predominance of additive gene effects in controlling these traits. Correlation coefficient analysis revealed that biological yield per plant, pods per plant and seeds per pod were the important traits for realizing enhancement in grain yield in Lentil.
