Abstract

The experiment was conducted for induction of multiple shoots using shoot tips of Gerbera jamesonii. The shoot induction was noticed on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with different concentrations and combination of cytokinins (KIN, 2ip, Ads, BAP). These multiple shoots later developed normal shoots. The highest rate of shoot proliferation was from MS medium added with BAP (1.5 mg/litre). The multiple shoot buds were subcultured into MS medium with BAP (0.5–1.5 mg/litre) along with Ads (1.0 mg/litre) and GA3 (0.5 mg/litre), which gave highest frequency of shoot proliferation and elongation. The shoots were rooted on MS medium supplemented with IBA (1.75 mg/litre).
