The topic addressed by the panel members is national transportation data--its collection, analysis, and dissemination. Specific areas addressed are: the Transportation Research Board study of transportation data needs; the establishment and functions of the U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics; the Census Bureau's programs that touch on transportation; the Canadian system for statistics; and the data needs survey for NCHRP Project 8-30, Characteristics and Changes in Freight Transportation Demand.
