Abstract

The construction of an artificial harbour at Coffs Harbour in northern N.S.W. has resulted in the intersection of the south to north littoral drift. The beach immediately to the south has accreted at approximately 5 metres per year. Detailed hydrographic surveys since 1890 and aerial photo coverage since 1942 have enabled calculation of the littoral drift rate which is approximately 15,000 cubic metres per year. The patterns of shoaling have been investigated and the effect on the beaches to the north and south assessed.
