Abstract
Due to high insulation and increased internal heat generation, some buildings require cooling even during winter seasons. One simple way of saving cooling energy consumption is to use a free cooling system when the outdoor air temperature is low. With free cooling system, cooling water is recirculated through the cooling tower to be cooled by the cold outdoor air without operating the chillers. This cooled water is used to cool the indoor space. The design documents of buildings which utilizes the free cooling system are collected and analyzed by using the TRNSYS program. The analysis shows the free cooling system can save energy about 61% compared to the turbo chiller system.
