Abstract
A major part of the Dutch Ministry of Transport's effort to decentralize transport and traffic policy and to modernize the public transit ticketing system is to take advantage of recent developments in automatic fare collection systems. The overall aim is to provide seamless travel for passengers and to improve the efficiency of operators in providing services. This paper describes Tripperpass, a smartcard project that has been in use in Groningen. Discussed is the basic philosophy and the main features of the system, as well as up-to-date information regarding the Tripperpass.
