Abstract
The new high temperature superconductors (HTSC) open up many possibilities for microwave applications. High Tc superconducting film technology has progressed to the point where the demonstration of passive microwave components is feasible. Such components include resonators, filters, couplers, antennas and delay lines. These components are expected to enhance the performance of communication satellite and radar systems. The performance improvement is anticipated because of low losses, higher Q with increased efficiency. This review paper is presented in three parts. In part I of the paper, properties and characteristics of HTSCs at microwaves are presented. Part II discusses microwave characterisation of these materials. Microwave passive components based on HTSCs are described in part III of the paper.
