Abstract

The ionospheric F-region is noted for its many anomalies, which may be defined as the departure in measured electron concentrations from the values predicted by straightforward application of Chapman layer theory. The anomalies have long been studied from ground based ionosonde data. In this study, three years of Alouette I satellite data on the topside ionosphere, between the F2 peak and 1000 km, have been analyzed.
