Abstract

Comments are made on the current status of transportation planning and likely challenges over the next several years from the perspective of a transportation professional who has been in the business in different roles for many years. The comments are structured in a top 10 list of policy issues and areas of consideration that will face transportation professionals in the 21st century and start from the bottom, as follows: (10) Transportation is not alone; (9) All the low hanging fruit has been picked; (8) Travel growth is good; (7) Immigration; (6) Integration as a key; (5) Equity; (4) System performance; (3) Skill sets; (2) Politics; and (1) Proactive leadership.
