Abstract
The Equatorial segment of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, limited in the north by 4 degrees North Fracture Zone (proposed new name: Strakhov Fracture Zone) and in the south by Săo Paulo Fracture Zone, was studied in detail during the seventh cruise of R/V Akademik Nikolai Strakhov (1 April - 4 August 1988). The expedition was organised by the Geological Instute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Scientists from several Soviet institutions and also from Brazil, United Kingdom and USA participated in the expedition.
