Abstract
The program for the development of new equipment for rapid transit includes eight main areas of investigation. These are: train vehicle stability, sound and vibration, propulsion equipment and power supply, transit vehicle trucks, automatic train control, laboratory cars, automatic fare collection, and miscellaneous tests. Developments in these areas will provide information for the design of a modern transit system for the San Francisco Bay Area as well as information to other metropolitan areas planning new transit systems.
