Abstract
Two separate trials were conducted during kharif-2010 at Agricultural Research Station, Keshwana, Jalore with the objective to find out suitable varieties of sorghum for dual purpose (grain and stover) and fodder production in western Rajasthan. The grain productivity of dual purpose sorghum varieties ranged between 2.22 q/ha and 30.82q/ha with the average of 10.06 q/ha. Sorghum varieties CSH-23 and CSV-17 performed relatively better and provided higher grain yield than average. The fresh stover yield of dual purpose varieties ranged between 181.73 q/ha and 402.43 q/ha with the average of 294.52 q/ha. The stover yield potential of varieties SPV-1779, CSV-20, CSV-23 and SPV-1753 was relatively higher than average. The green fodder yield of different fodder varieties at 70 days after sowing ranged between 417.67 q/ha and 513.67 q/ha with the average of 448.94 q/ha. Sorghum fodder varieties SU-l080, CSH-24 MF, CSH-20 MF, Pant Chari-6, Raj Chari-2 provided higher green fodder yield than average under single cut system. Therefore, these high yielding varieties may be promoted for cultivation in western Rajasthan.
